Kappa Alpha Psi at Copeland

KAPPA ALPHA PSI. INC. & COPELAND E.S. COLLABORATION

During the 2023-2024, the Dr. Crosby Copeland, Jr. E.S. was adopted by the KAPPA ALPHA PSI. Inc. fraternity, which developed into an extensive collaboration with its’ students, teachers, parents and community partners.   Dr. Crosby Copeland, Jr. E.S. is proud and fortunate to have the notable support of the “Kappa’s” Fraternity of concerned Black Men, and their commitment to meaningful and lasting community service.   At our kindergarten through third grade elementary school, we are indeed gratified to have the myriad of programs that have been launched.   The following examples of effective programs are indeed noteworthy:

  1. Mentoring our third (3rd) grade young men by discussing and teaching the habits of highly achieving people, and what it means and takes to have successful life and career.
  2. Career awareness and opportunities, which feature speakers from all professions such as business, all STEAM fields, education, the legal and justice system, government, non-profits, and medical fields.
  3. Copeland Young Men’s Choir, which features the support, guidance and expertise of a retired music teacher.
  4. Copeland Chess Team, which teaches critical thinking and problem-solving processes, with the support of several former Kappa’s.
  5. Men’s Night Dinner at Copeland which brought over 150 young and their mentors coming together and sharing the importance of community building and interdependence.
  6. Promoting Literacy through a multitude of Kappa speakers, who visit a variety of classes to facilitate a love and appreciation of reading across all grade levels.
  7. Providing school supplies, book bags, and materials for our young people and, in particular, at our EXTRAVAGANZA event at the beginning of our school year.
  8. Providing Turkey Dinners at Thanksgiving and at Christmas for our needy families.
  9. Providing incentives and supports to promote student attendance, good citizenship and academic achievement.
