Walking School Bus

Parents, guardians, and family members (ages 18+) are encouraged to apply to be a Walking School Bus (WSB) Driver. WSB Drivers will receive $25 per route to walk their child to or home from school. Morning and afternoon routes are available.

Walking School Bus Drivers work Monday through Friday for approximately 10-15 hours a week. The hours are flexible based on school schedules and district needs (For example: reduced days, delayed openings, etc.). During the regular school year, they will convene at designated locations in the city to assist elementary and intermediate-aged students to and from school. Stellar attendance is mandatory to facilitate student achievement and continuity of education throughout the school year.

Walking School Bus Information

The WSB is a group of children walking to and from school on a designated route. The suggested routes to school have already been planned out for families by school administrators, the Trenton Police Department (TPD), the Greater Mercer Transportation Management Association (GMTMA), and the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT).

These routes have been determined to be the most direct and safest routes based on various factors and are near where most students live in relation to their respective schools. In addition, TPS will continue to work closely with TPD to ensure families see a regular crossing guard at every crossing guard post along the route.

The Trenton Police Department knows these routes and will watch for our students during the morning and afternoon hours. Assistance from TPD will help provide more eyes on the street while walking with your feet!
